Naughty me not updating the blog in ages... Sorry and thanks for all the lovely hate mail ;) So here we go again! Starting with the Flags of harmony and unity at the end of september. It was Hong Kong´s 10th anniversary from returning back to China from the UK this year and also the 70th anniversary year of the Hong Kong PolyU (that would be my school if you werent clever enough to figure that out..;). So they decided to celebrate by attempting to break the Guinness World record by forming the largest human flag ever! Theyve been trying to get all the students (and their families, friends, anyone) to sign up for the event for weeks so of course me and Niina, being dedicated students, jumped at the chance and signed up! I cant believe how seriously people take these kind of things here, our hall actually had a rehearsal for it and everything... What can I say, thats real dedication.

The event took place at the Siu Sai Wan Sports stadium. They had buses going there all morning from the halls so that was good as the place is like an hour away. What wasnt so good was the weather..... So typical, the girls are gonna take part in the biggest outdoor activity ever (of course) and theyve issued a typhoon warning :D Great, thanks! It was only a T1 though, they go up to T8, so I guess it wasnt that big a deal. But it was really windy and there was heavy rain from time to time so you did get wet. It was the first time Ive worn long trousers here so the day was historical in that way too ;)

Hans, Niina, Nicolas and me. Notice the red, the organizers were hoping people would wear red because of the colour of the flags. They also gave everyone the lovely, lovely caps (it wouldnt fit my head, I was so dissapointed that I couldnt wear it...:D), a raincoat and a bottle of water.

Before the actual formation of the flags (both the HKSAR and Chinese flag) we were just sitting around waiting for the thing to start. It took forever for everyone to get seated so they had performances going on meanwhile. They had martial arts shows by students from PolyU and also some local artists who sang a few songs. It was so funny tho, none of us knew the artists but as soon as they went on stage all the local people went mad! They were singing along to the songs and had posters and signs and everything. Who felt like an outsider...? Not us... :D And of course we didnt feel like outsiders because of the fact that the whole event was in Chinese... Especially when they were explaining what we need to do when were forming the flag... Excuse me, could you just repeat that last part please...?

After the performances and speeches it was time to form the flags. Yay! We went down to the grass section by section and were given red boards to form the flag with. It was quite an amazing feeling to stand there with 20 000 people, not having a clue what to do but it was fun, we laughed a lot that day!

So yeah, we broke the record! 21 700 people in total. All in all a good day, we even took the boards home with us and got diplomas and everything. There werent that many western people taking part in the event so we were almost like celebrities with reporters taking photos of us and random people posing with us in their photos. Could get used to that ;)
